Longfellow Illustrated: Boston, Houghton, Mifflin and Company, New York; 11 East Seventeenth Street. The Riverside Press, Cambridge 1887. This is a wonderful volume of "The Poetical Works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, with numerous illustrations." As you can see by the photo, this edition is in very good condition. There is some wear on the top and bottom of the spine and the corners of the cover. The tissue sheet which separates the title page and the initial illustration is still in place, however there is some minor separation of the illustration page from the title page.The rear cover also show some separation of the cover and cover page. Rik will be happy to send an additional scan of this, just send a request by email. The tooled cover is in excellent condition, with gold embossing, red and black coloring. Pages are gold leafed, still in great shape, with some yellowing around the outer edges. As a BONUS, included is a newspaper clipping found in the book, which was taken from the Cambridge Tribune of a poem written by Longfellow for the children of Cambridge dated February 27, 1879. Year Book of Agriculture Autographed by Congressman Alvin O'Konski (Deceased): Published by the Department of Agriculture in 1947, this book is in great condition. There is a small amount of yellowing and some binder tears between the rear cover and the last page but otherwise its pretty nice. Signed on the inside cover page by then Congressman Alvin E. OKONSKI, Alvin Edward, 1904-1987, a Representative from Wisconsin; born on a farm near Kewaunee, Kewaunee County, Wis., May 26, 1904; attended the public schools and the University of Iowa at Iowa City; was graduated from State Teachers College, Oshkosh, Wis., in 1927, and from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1932; instructor in high schools at Omro and Oconto, Wis., 1926-1929; member of the faculty of Oregon State College at Corvallis 1929-1931, and at the University of Detroit, Detroit, Mich., 1936-1938; superintendent of schools, Pulaski, Wis., 1932-1935; instructor at a junior college, Coleraine, Minn., in 1936; educator, journalist, and lecturer; editor and publisher, Hurley, Wis., 1940-1942; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth and to the fourteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1943-January 3, 1973); unsuccessful candidate for nomination in 1957 to the United States Senate to fill a vacancy; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1972 to the Ninety-third Congress; was a resident of Rhinelander, Wis., until his death in Kewaunee, Wis., on July 8, 1987; interment in St. Hedwigs Cemetery.
